Saudi family residence visa: step by step para sa OFW

Last checked Oct 25, 2026 · By the Flypinas team · Independent guide, not a government site

Quick answer: Para madala ang asawa at mga anak mo sa Saudi para tumira, the usual order is:
  • Absher: request the family visa.
  • Employer (Muqeem): your employer approves it.
  • MOFA visa platform: issue the visa. my.gov.sa lists SAR 379 and 4 working days.
  • VFS TasHeel Philippines: your family has the visa stamped.
  • Travel, then get each dependent’s iqama within 90 days of arrival.
Prepare your attested degree, Arabic translations, and the apostilled PSA marriage and birth certificates first. No official minimum salary is published.
🆕 What changed recently
  • Oct 6, 2026 (announced, not yet in effect): highly skilled workers will be able to get family entry visas at the same time as their work visa. It covers their spouse, sons under 25 and unmarried daughters. No start date or definition has been announced yet (SPA).
  • Mar 16, 2026: PSA certificates for Apostille countries like Saudi Arabia now get a digital-only e-Apostille (Apostille guide).
  • Dec 7, 2022: the Apostille Convention took effect for Saudi Arabia, so a DFA apostille replaced Saudi Embassy legalisation by law (see the Saudi box).

Visit visa or residence visa: which one do you need?

🏠 Family residence visa (this guide)

Your wife and children live with you in Saudi Arabia, each with an iqama. A residence visa lasts as long as your own permit (my.gov.sa). Usually covers sons under 18 and unmarried daughters.

✈️ Family visit visa

For parents, spouse or kids visiting for a while. The sponsor must hold a work iqama, not a dependent iqama (MOFA). Apply on KSA Visa. You can extend it in Absher during the last 7 days, or up to 3 days after it expires. my.gov.sa lists SAR 100 for an extension (my.gov.sa).

Step by step

This is the usual order based on official service pages and OFWs’ experience. Your employer’s government relations officer may handle some of these steps.

  1. Absher: family visa request. Log in to Absher (Individuals) and request a family or dependent visa under Expatriates Affairs. Pay any charges shown first, because the Interior Ministry asks residents to pay before submitting.
  2. Employer approval (Muqeem). Many OFWs report that the request also needs approval from the employer’s Muqeem account. Tell HR when you submit. Reports say this pre-approval, the “yellow slip”, can take a few weeks.
  3. MOFA visa platform. On the MOFA visa platform, choose Visitor services and apply for the residence visa with your family’s passports, white-background photos and medical insurance. my.gov.sa lists SAR 379 and 4 working days (my.gov.sa). Print the visa application.
  4. Philippines: VFS TasHeel. Your family books an appointment at VFS TasHeel Philippines for biometrics and visa stamping. Bring the originals and copies. Reports say the visa can take several working days to appear in their system. Ask VFS which branch handles family residence visas before you travel to it.
  5. Travel to Saudi Arabia. Use the visa within its validity. For a reduced travel tax for your spouse and kids, see TIEZA.
  6. Iqama within 90 days. In Absher or at Jawazat, do the fingerprints and pay the iqama, insurance and dependent fees shown, then issue each dependent’s iqama (my.gov.sa).
Baby born in Saudi Arabia? Register the birth in Absher (my.gov.sa), get the Saudi birth certificate an apostille from Saudi MOFA, file the Report of Birth and passport with the Philippine Embassy, then add the baby as your dependent. Details are in our Apostille guide.

📌 What’s official vs. what OFWs report

OFFICIAL

The MOFA residence visa needs a passport, a white-background photo and medical insurance (SAR 379, 4 working days, per my.gov.sa). The Interior Ministry asks for qualifications with an Arabic translation, and for charges to be paid before you submit. A visit visa sponsor must hold a work iqama.

OFWs REPORT

Some requests need Muqeem approval from the employer. The yellow slip can take weeks. Absher sometimes says “not eligible” for certain professions. VFS or the embassy sometimes ask for an extra stamp on PSA documents. No official minimum salary is published, so ignore figures from agents.

Last checked Oct 25, 2026. Some steps happen inside logged-in systems (Absher, Muqeem) that we can’t see, so follow what the system shows you.

Common reasons it gets stuck or rejected

🧑‍💼 Profession not eligible

Absher may refuse based on the profession on your iqama. Ask HR about updating your profession with your attested degree, or book an in-person Expatriates Affairs appointment.

🎓 Degree not attested or translated

Get the CHED CAV and DFA apostille first, then the Arabic translation if asked.

🔤 Name mismatch

A middle name, maiden name or married surname that differs between the PSA record and the passport. Fix the PSA record or passport before you apply.

💳 Unpaid charges or fines

Pay any charges or traffic violations shown in Absher before you submit. Unpaid fees can block requests and renewals.

📆 Your iqama is about to expire

Renew your own iqama first, since your family’s residence depends on yours.

📧 Printed e-Apostille

The DFA says an e-Apostille loses its validity if printed. Forward the PDF, or ask VFS how they want it.

Saudi family residence visa: FAQ

Ano ang pinagkaiba ng family visit visa at family residence visa sa Saudi?

A family visit visa is for a temporary stay. Your parents, spouse or kids visit you and then leave or extend. A family residence visa, also called a permanent family visa or istiqdam, is for your spouse and children to live with you in Saudi Arabia. Each dependent gets their own iqama, linked to yours. Parents usually come on a visit visa only.

Magkano ang family residence visa?

The Saudi government portal (my.gov.sa) lists SAR 379 for the MOFA residence visa, with processing in 4 working days once your request reaches that stage. VFS TasHeel fees, medical tests, insurance, translation and the dependents’ iqama are extra. Expat dependents also pay a monthly dependent fee with the iqama. We didn’t publish an amount because we couldn’t confirm it on an official page today, so check the amount in Absher before you budget.

Kailangan pa ba ng Saudi Embassy stamp sa PSA marriage at birth certificate?

Legally, a DFA apostille is enough for Saudi Arabia since Dec 7, 2022. But some OFWs report that VFS TasHeel or the Saudi Embassy in Manila still asked for an extra stamp on family visa papers. Ask VFS TasHeel first, in writing if possible, before you pay an agent. See the Saudi box in our Apostille guide.

Ano ang gagawin kung sinabi ng Absher na hindi ako eligible?

There’s no official minimum salary or profession list published for the family residence visa, but Absher may still refuse a request based on your profession or file. Many OFWs then book an in-person appointment with the Expatriates Affairs (Jawazat) office, or ask the employer’s government relations officer to follow up. Also check that your degree is attested and that the profession on your iqama matches it.

Ilang araw bago dapat magka-iqama ang pamilya ko pagdating sa Saudi?

Plan to finish the dependents’ iqama within 90 days of their arrival. Do the fingerprints, medical insurance and iqama issuance early, and confirm the deadline in Absher, because delays can mean fines.

Ano ang bagong rule para sa highly skilled workers?

On Oct 6, 2026, Saudi Arabia’s Interior Ministry announced that highly skilled workers will be able to get family entry visas at the same time as their own work visa. It covers their spouse, sons under 25 and unmarried daughters. As of Oct 25, 2026, no start date has been announced and ‘highly skilled’ hasn’t been officially defined, so it’s not in effect yet. Follow the normal process for now.

Kailangan ba ng travel tax ng pamilya ko?

TIEZA has a reduced travel tax for an OFW’s legitimate spouse, unmarried children under 21 and children with disabilities travelling to the OFW’s jobsite: ₱300 economy, ₱400 first class. Bring a copy of your OEC or OFW proof, the marriage or birth certificate and the ticket. A minor travelling without a parent also needs a DSWD travel clearance.
